For several years I trained as a high intensity athlete, performing workouts several times per week and pushing my body to its limit. The downside of this is that I developed long term injuries in both knees, and am now unable to run due to the impact. But any athlete will tell you that you can’t simply quit exercising altogether - this is where the elliptical trainer came to my rescue.

I had some experience of elliptical trainers through gyms I had visited in the past and was quite impressed with the workouts they provided. So when I considered my options for continuing exercise, whilst keeping low impact on my knees, an elliptical trainer was the ideal fit. After speaking to the owner of my local gym I didn’t think I could get an elliptical trainer anything like what they have - those machines run into several thousand dollars.

I tried purchasing a cheap Image brand trainer from the local Wal-Mart, but couldn’t stand the flimsy design and lack of sturdy structure - I was always worried was going break mid-exercise. I also wanted something where the foot pedals weren’t spaced so far apart, that’s just didn’t feel natural or familiar with the way I walk or run.

I realized that to get a sturdy piece of equipment, that was capable of providing a smooth workout experience, I was going to have to increase my budget. So I set a budget of $1000 and decided this was the highest reasonable price I could pay for what I needed. After a recommendation by a former gym buddy I came across the Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer on Amazon.

The price at the time was (and hopefully still is) well under my $1000 budget, and the reviews from other users described it as a reliable, comfortable piece of workout equipment. Based on these reviews I placed an order and received delivery within three days, got out the instructions, set it up and was ready go within an hour.

It is certainly not a portable piece of equipment, in fact it’s pretty damn heavy, but you’ll be very glad of that once you get on. The action is smooth and comfortable, giving you the confidence to make large open movements to get the best out of the exercise. This was my biggest problem with all the machines - I just didn’t feel comfortable or confident enough to do an all-out workout.

If you are looking for an elliptical trainer for under $1000 I strongly recommend you give the Schwinn Elliptical Trainer a look. Read the customer reviews and check out the price (which included the cost of delivery when I ordered) and decide for yourself whether this is the trainer for you.

I hope this review of my experience and the Schwinn Elliptical Trainer has been useful and I wish you all the best with your future workouts.
